Sustainability

sustain

Food companies face unprecedented pressure as the definition of sustainability evolves to establish ESG commitments and navigate growing public expectations for a healthy, affordable, sustainable food supply.

The stakes are high as one well-meaning decision can have unintended consequences and stifle progress. So how does the food industry forge a truly sustainable path forward?

Optimizing Sustainability

CFI remains on the forefront of addressing sustainability pressures – providing food system stakeholders with research-based tools and processes to evaluate the growing list of sustainability priorities to determine the impact of potential decisions. This allows them to make better-informed decisions aligned with their values and those of their stakeholders.

It’s part of our free Optimizing Sustainability framework – a comprehensive resource including three modules to help companies make values-based sustainability decisions that leverage credible, science-based insights and a comprehensive assessment of the potential environmental,
economic and social impacts on the company, its supply chain and consumers.

Framework modules include:

  • Setting Sustainability Priorities
  • Evaluating Sustainability Tradeoffs
  • Responding to Sustainability Commitment Requests

CFI engagement ranges from initial guidance or a high-level workshop to more comprehensive facilitation and project deliverables that may include workshops,
stakeholder research and strategy development.

Building Trust

New and emerging innovations play a critical role in producing food more sustainably and affordably, while reducing impacts on the environment. But without a marketplace and public that supports technology use, the world may be kept waiting. So how do we earn acceptance for innovations that help mitigate environmental impacts?

CFI research identifies specific factors that drive consumer acceptance – and rejection – of technology and points to trusted sources and sheds light on distinct generational differences. We provide training and strategic guidance to the food industry on how to effectively engage as new innovations are developed and introduced to the marketplace.
